The Chariot - David de la Hoz

Crushingly brutal with an interesting break featuring the frontman of the alternative band Listener.  The music video is still one of my favorites as of late.  Check it :)

My Workflow

When I record, I use an all digital work flow.  Let'Ads go over the specs!

Computer:  2007 MacBook Pro (don't hate)
Garageband
Addictive Drums
Guitar Rig 3

I use a 1/4-1/8 adapter for the guitar and run a line-in into my MacBook.  I really like the ease of Garageband when recording.  You set a BPM speed and time signature and recording is very easy!  Addictive Drums is super easy.  I program on a sequencer of sorts and feel out the song.  Making drum tracks is totally simple.  Guitar Rig 3 has a HUGE database of sounds and is totally customizable to my liking.

PS. Sorry I have been so busy lately, I'm finishing up my year as a senior in University, so it's crunch time!

Oh Boy!

I have 100 follows.  Thank you all so much for reading and all of the positive comments.  You all rock...hard.

Piss Dungeon.

So !mypetoctopus had reached the fame and fortune that we had always desired.  Except...we didn't.  Only we listened to our own tracks, jabbing each other in the ribs and making stupid giggling noises.  It was obvious from the beginning that !mpo would never be anything more than a fun joke.  After coming to this realization again, we decided to get...experimental.

Since I am a southern boy, I have always enjoyed the off-shoot of metal, southern metal.  It hold an almost...country air, but it is infused with the goodness of metal.  Heavy riffs, breakdowns...you know, the good stuff :).  I won't brag, but I know a couple of riffs.  I threw a few together.  We filled the song with irrelevant, shit lyrics.  We recorded myself urinating.  After many hours of back-breaking work, we were left with a classic: Piss Dungeon.  A drop-d piss-storm of riffs, breakdowns, and two-steps that would leave your buck-toothed Uncle Jeb in tears.  I give you, PISS DUNGEON.

Will !mpo's next direction continue down the dusty Alabama trail?  Or would we head to the beach with a head bobbing new single?  Tune in to find out more!

Pelican - Drought

Today I feature a song by post-metal gurus Pelican from Chicago.  This one of their earliest works, and of course, got me hooked instantly.  DEEP DEEP chugging and droning and riffing!  In my opinion, one of the best Pelican songs out there!

Tosin Abasi

Guitar virtuosity meets djent-style low-end guitar goodness in Tosin Abasi's band Animals As Leaders.  I had to pick my jaw up off of the ground after this song, Wave of Babies (which is a Homestar Runner reference).

The Damned Things

The Damned Things are a new super-group comprised of Joe Trohman and Andy Hurley of Fall Out Boy, Scott Ian and Rob Caggiano of Anthrax, and Keith Buckley and Josh Newton of Every Time I Die.  The mix sounds a tad strange, but the end result is phenomenal.  These guys are bringing back good ol' fashion hard rock and it sounds so wonderful.  Check out the video for their single "We've Got a Situation Here," directed by Brendan Small of Dethklok fame.

Stay tuned for more metal!
